BAYOU

Would you just sit down for a minute,

I know that it is super late, but

There's something that's been on my mind all day

Ruminating.

If we learned from history,

If we're illuminated,

How come we hold on to the worst shit

And duplicate it?

Don't tell me it's human nature.

That's a bullshit excuse,

A ruse for the too complacent.

Where are the movers, shakers, doers?

I guess they make 'em no more like the Studebaker Cruiser.

Tell me,

Have we forgotten how to fight for our future?

Maybe it has to do with people praying for some dude to save 'em.

That's not blasphemous.

Blasphemous is you electing some fool who's crazy,

Pledging allegiance to a nation.

Blasphemy is you believing, there's no truth for you to take in.

And I'm not talking 'bout what people on the tube are saying,

Nor the rulers on whose every word you hang like drooling babies,

Not caring 'bout that funny taste in the Kool Aid lately.

Here where the murky waters run mighty deep.

Can you still see the forest for all its trees?

This place is swamped with alligators and beasts.

Bayou.

Bayou.

It is so easy to get lost in the streams.

You have no idea what lurks in the deep. (Deep. Deep.)

Only the bravest dip their feet in the creek.

Bayou.

Bayou.

The ease with which we gave up our freedoms really shook me.

Can you really not see what we could be?

There is only fear and love.

Everything else is a result of either one of the above.

Control for instance:

The fear of letting go.

But what another one does you need to never know.

Racism: The fear of an idea

That's been planted in your brain via propaganda smear.

Sexism: the fear of being vulnerable.

'Cause in this brave new world no one gets emotional.

Women don't protect their child,

Men don't take pride in choosing death over serving lesser men all their lives.

Love on the other hand will liberate your mind,

Make you understand,

There's one race inhabiting the motherland.

It's human, which means you know,

No need to be assuming,

That there can be no one on earth to rule them.
